Tsunami Relief Contributions for Tamil Nadu - From Chicago/US

Dear Friends of Chicago Tamil Sangam & Tamil Nadu Foundation,

As you are aware the Devastating Tsunami hit South Asia, and the Coastal Tamilnadu was hit with the full fury of the monster waves. You would agree with me that Life has changed forever for many of the victims, entire generations have been wiped out and the survivors have lost whatever life savings they have had. One of the largest (if not the largest) humanitarian relief efforts is now underway to help the millions of people in nine countries who have been, or will be, seriously affected

Chicago Tamilsangam and TNF are working in concert to help provide relief and rehabilitate the victims in Tamilnadu.

This tsunami will likely impact more people than any other natural disaster in recorded history. Most of the victims are extremely poor. As tens of thousands are treated for injuries and the dead are buried, disease will begin to spread as safe drinking water systems across the region have been contaminated or completely destroyed. This is a tremendous humanitarian emergency. Please help the tens of thousands of fellow tamils who need help by donating whatever you can. Every cent counts and there is neither a minimum nor a maximum donation.

Where and how will you spend the money ?

100% of your donations will go for this effort. TNF has a dedicated team (and office) in chennai and the releif efforts will be co-ordinated thro chennai office.

Immediate Goals

1. Provide medical help - Medicines / Treatments for the Victims

2. Provide basic amenities to get the life back on track.


Long-term Goal

1. Adopt 3 villages that are affected by the Tsunami (one each from Cuddalore / Nagai / Kanniyakumari districts), and help them get their life back.

Are you taking any in-kind donations?

We are taking only cash/cheque donations at this time. However we may have a clothes drive etc in the near future. CTS is working with the Indian consulate and Air-India and other shipping companies to co-ordinate the logistics. We will send a communication as we make more progress.

Can I pay by Credit card ?

As we said earlier every cent counts. The CC companies take 2.5 to 3.5% transaction fees which takes the precious dollars from going to the real cause. Please send your donations by check.

How can I Volunteer?

You can help this effort in many ways.

1. Arrange a matching contribution from your organization

2. Work with airlines to secure free passage for goods etc.

3. Collect money from your work/Temple/Church group and mail them to TNF.
